Presenters Bios

Ed Evans, Consultant Open Data Institute, NED New Digital Business. 

Ed Evans joined the Open Data Institute (ODI) in April 2021 to pursue an interest in how open and shared data supports the energy transition and NetZero. Ed is leading the delivery of projects to develop data ecosystems in the UK energy industry and the delivery of ESG data amongst other data projects. 

Ed is engaged as an advisor, as a member of the steering group, to a number of energy data programmes sponsored by BEIS/Innovate UK and North SeaTransition Authority. These programmes share common goals in the energy transition and share a common recognition of the criticality of data to achieving these goals. 

Prior to joining the ODI, Ed had a 30-year career in the ‘systems and data industry’ within utilities and oil and gas. Ed was co-founder and managing director of New Digital Business, a consulting organisation dedicated to helping clients become more effective in using their data, systems and technical support teams.  New Digital Business established offices in the UK, Norway and Australia to deliver consulting services and benchmarking, becoming a recognised authority in this space. Ed retains a Non-Executive Director role with New Digital Business.

Jill Lewis, Managing Director and CEO, Troika International Ltd.

Voluntary post – Past Chair for the Technical Standards of the SEG having led the team that bought about the ratification of SEGY Rev 1, SEGD 2.1, SEGD 3 and SEGD 3.1 and SEG-Y_2 all of which are now in use. Jill is also liaison between the SEG, Energistics and IOGP.

As Managing Director and CEO of Troika International Ltd, she has been able to drive a new approach to data management supplying the industry with the systems to automate contract and format compliance.

Michael van der Haven, VP Consulting Expert Energy, CGI

As VP Consulting Expert in Energy, Michaël takes the lead in tackling IT, Integration and Domain challenges in Oil and Gas for CGI and CGI’s customers. The past 15+ years have been spent as a Solution Architect building various massive data and integration platforms for the Oil and Gas industries. Making mistakes, celebrating success and backed by not just an IT, but also a domain based Reservoir Engineering background. In the last few years this has culminated in a very active contribution to the OSDU forum and the development of CGI’s Pivot: a Platform as a Service Solution based on the emerging standards for OSDU.

Sunil Garg, CEO, dataVediK

Sunil Garg is the founder and CEO of dataVediK, a Houston based startup building a Hyper-Converged Data and Analytics Platform for Oil & Gas industry. Prior to this, he spent 20+ years establishing and growing Data Management, Big Data and Analytics business for Schlumberger. Sunil has deep understanding of Oil and Gas data, Data Science & ML and uses the combination to build end user centric solutions. He is a member of several industry organizations and forums like SPE, AAPG, PPDM, SPDM, OSDU and Rice Alliance. Sunil is a sought-after speaker at various industry conferences and conducts Big Data, Machine Learning and Blockchain trainings for the Industry, the Government, and the Academia. He is also an active angel investor and a charter member of TiE, an organization whose mission is to foster entrepreneurship through mentoring, networking, funding, and incubation.

Jess Kozman, Senior Principal Consultant, Katalyst Data Management

Jess Kozman has worked with energy and resource industry data since the early 1980’s. His experience includes exploration geophysics, IT management, and consulting roles for national and international petroleum and minerals organizations, government agencies, and service providers. He maintains professional qualifications in earth sciences, data quality, and project management. Jess is currently based in Perth as a Senior Principal Consultant at Katalyst Data Management, where he leads Southeast Asia consulting services and collaborates on digital transformation in the energy and resource sector.

Angus Craig, VP International, Katalyst Data Management

Angus Craig, VP International with Katalyst Data Management since 2014. He is an Electrical & Electronics Engineer and worked in seismic acquisition, processing support, computer technology and upstream applications solutions delivery in the energy sector for most of his career. Angus is located near London and the UK Data Centre with a brief to drive Katalyst solutions, delivering digitalisation, data management services and support to the international sector and national solutions.

Lee Hatfield, Senior IM Consultant, Flare Solutions

Lee started in the E&P industry in 2001 and has undertaken a number of roles with Schlumberger, Paras, BG Group and since 2014, Flare Solutions.

During my time at Flare, I have completed projects covering standards development, huge data migrations, taxonomy and data tagging, Information Management training, developing Digital strategies and working with regulators to enhance data quality.

Patrick Meroney , Operations and Professional Services, Katalyst Data Management

Pat is VP US Operations and Professional Services at Katalyst Data Management. He has worked in and around Information Management in Exploration and Production for over 24 years and has written and presented on various topics over the years including GIS, Information Delivery, Data Governance, and IM Organizations.

Prior to joining Katalyst, Pat worked at Conoco and then ConocoPhillips for 21 years before moving to Repsol E&P to lead their US Information Management organization in 2011.


Cindy Cummings, Exploration Digital and Physical Data Coordinator, Repsol

Cindy Cummings has over 35 years of work experience in the oil and gas industry in areas of exploration, development, production, and information management.  Cindy worked for Conoco, IHS, Energy IQ and is currently in Exploration Technical Services at Repsol in the Woodlands, Texas.  Cindy has authored and presented papers on Oil and Gas Data Management, Data Governance, Technology and various other topics over the years at PNEC, PPDM, and ARMA conferences. Cindy is on the PPDM Houston Leadership Team and also participates in several PPDM work groups. Cindy is also a certified Project Manager which helps to keep the many data management strategies, programs and projects synchronized and moving forward in this ever changing industry.

Francesca Bell, Senior Investor Relations Advisor, Offshore Energies UK

Francesca is passionate about a managed transition to achieve net-zero and the role of strong E,S&G performance as a value driver for businesses.

She is a motivated member of a number of cross-discipline industry taskforces focused on scaling investment in low carbon opportunities throughout a finance transition. She has a particular interest in the development of green and sustainable taxonomies and the importance of local content in scaling businesses and economies.

Outside of work she’s a keen rower and rugby coach.

Steve Aitken, Founder, Intelligent Plant

Steve Aitken is the founder of Intelligent Plant - a company with the mission to accelerate the use of industrial data for the benefit of the planet. He is a Mentor of startups through Tech X, and students The University of Aberdeen - His company Intelligent Plant hosts the inform prize for the best student presentation in 3rd year and he is a Royal Society Entrepreneur in residence at the University. He likes to talk real about actual delivery and is open to chat to anyone on the subject.

Alex Ross, Co-chair, PPDM Professional Data Management Certification Committee

Alex is an oil & gas and mining IT professional with a geoscience technical background and more than thirty years experience working in the UK, USA and Australia for Shell, Schlumberger, Santos, Beach Energy, SA Department of Energy and Mines and SRA IT - optimising the development, management and delivery of data and information systems.

Alex is a PPDM Certified Petroleum Data Analyst (CPDA) and also co-chair of the PPDM Professional Data Management Certification Committee.
