Who Should Join SPDM?

Personal and Professional Interest

SPDM membership is of value to people who are interested in how organisations acquire, store, and use data in efficient and innovative ways while complying with legal and regulatory requirements. Membership is open to individuals only, at any employment status. Corporate membership by companies or business entities is not offered.

Varied Roles

Related job titles and responsibilities are often varied. Responsibilities may cover more operational and ‘practitioner-focused’ areas, or may cover more strategic and management areas. Some examples of job titles may include:

  • Data manager; Data Steward; Data Technologist
  • Information Manager; Information Steward
  • Data Scientist
  • GIS Specialist
  • IT Specialist
  • Executive and management roles with responsibility for data and PDM

Some people may also have multiple roles, e.g. primarily a geologist but also having responsibility for data management.

Petroleum Data Managers may be found in a range of organisations, including oil and gas producing companies, service providers, regulators, academia, etc.

Students

There are increasing opportunities for education in PDM, and we encourage participation from students studying for a qualification in PDM or in other subjects that include PDM components.
