Organising Committee

The event organising committee is an international group of practitioners in energy data management. You can browse the membership below. All SPDM members were invited to volunteer to participate in the committee so if you are interested in volunteering in future, look out for the invitation email.

Kevin Ward graduated with an Honours degree in Earth Science from Glasgow University and a Masters degree in Petroleum Geoscience from Heriot-Watt University. He started his career creating sequence stratigraphy resources for the oil and gas industry at Neftex Petroleum Consultants before moving into the professional services team at Petrosys to learn more about technology in the industry. More recently Kevin has been working with data management teams to explore current and future challenges and in particular has a keen interest in solving the challenges associated with categorising and accessing unstructured data and exchanging data between applications and data platforms.

Jehoshaphat Kioko is a Geologist, by background, currently working as a Petroleum Data Manager at the National Oil Corporation of Kenya. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Geology from the University of Nairobi, Kenya. He has over six (6) years’ experience working in Petroleum Data/Information Management.

As a Data Analyst, he takes pride in working with large amounts of data, turning the data into information, information into knowledge and knowledge into ideas for making critical business decisions.

He is currently undertaking several projects at National Oil Corporation of Kenya, including, running the National Data Center (NDC) and directly involved in the planned licensing round in Kenya.

Sunil Garg is the founder and CEO of dataVediK, a Houston based startup building a Hyper-Converged Data and Analytics Platform for Oil & Gas industry. Prior to this, he spent 20+ years establishing and growing Data Management, Big Data and Analytics business for Schlumberger. Sunil has deep understanding of Oil and Gas data, Data Science & ML and uses the combination to build end user centric solutions. He is a member of several industry organizations and forums like SPE, AAPG, PPDM, SPDM, OSDU and Rice Alliance. Sunil is a sought-after speaker at various industry conferences and conducts Big Data, Machine Learning and Blockchain trainings for the Industry, the Government and the Academia. He is also an active angel investor and a charter member of TiE, an organization whose mission is to foster entrepreneurship through mentoring, networking, funding and incubation.

Patricia Herrera Torres is an experienced and versatile subsurface data management consultant with more than 25 years of experience in this field and in leading small/medium teams and IM/IT-related projects. Her last six years in Shell, she was leading a team of technical data & workflow managers, working for Exploration, Field Development and Production. Additionally, in the role of Global Learning Advisor, she has led the development of the curriculum and the content for the Technical Data Management (TDM) Discipline. Currently she enjoys mentoring in technical data management and career development.

Kim Gunn Maver has extensive global oil and gas service company experience within management, strategy and sales. He has an Ph.D. in geology from Copenhagen University and MBA from Copenhagen Business School. He was managing director of the seismic inversion company Ødegaard, when the company was acquired by Schlumberger in 2006 and he stayed on in various management positions. In 2009 he started as VP of sales and Marketing at the OBC company RXT and later moved to Spectrum where he served in various Vice President positions. Since 2019 Kim has worked for Iraya Energies as Executive Vice President, Business Development.

Wally Jakubowicz has spent over 40 yrs in the Oil and Gas industry after graduating in 1979.

He initially worked for Schlumberger as a Wireline Field Engineer, Geophysicist and Petrophysicist, followed by a career as an independent consultant. He has worked for many clients around the world. Parallel to his subsurface data interpretation career, he has also spent 30 yrs involved in E&P subsurface data & information management. This was largely driven out of the frustration of having to constantly start interpretations with poor quality, incomplete and unvalidated data of unknown provenance and then struggling to find the necessary supporting critical data necessary for an optimal interpretation.

Wally now manages Hampton Data Services, that is developing efficient data discovery applications and E&P clean up workfows as part of its service. This has involved the use of ML, BI rules, Neural networks to create an Automated Virtual Data Management environment to index, classify and spatially link large volumes of unstructured in ponds, lakes and oceans.

Haroon Rashid works in Neptune Energy UK as Senior Data Management Advisor, holds Master’s Degree in Earth Science with specialisation in Geophysics from Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad, Pakistan. He is a professional Subsurface Data Management expert with over 20 years of experience in subsurface technical and data science knowledge in E&P data and applications.

Specialised in designing Data & Applications architecture and providing expert advice, guidance and support in analysis & implementation of new systems. Expertise in management of data lifecycle, implementation of data governance, data compliance, data quality, standards, policies and procedures. Hands on in analyzing data & applications, developing customized workflows, software procurement & installations, upgrades, database rationalization & implementations, data modelling, lean methodologies & cost saving exercises.

Worked with number of world’s leading multinational E&P (Shell, BP, BG, Total, Spirit, TAQA, Premier Oil, Saudi Aramco, Qatar Petroleum, Kuwait Oil Company) and service provider companies (Halliburton, Schlumberger, Venture) through various regions in Europe, Middle East, Asia & Australasia.

Mark Rae works in Shell as the Chief Data Officer for Exploration and also acts as the Global Discipline Lead for Technical Information and Data. He has 20 years of experience in petroleum data management, and since joining Shell has held a variety of roles covering most of the data spectrum. Most recently, Mark had a very enjoyable posting to Brunei Shell Petroleum where he developed local petroleum data management capability and implemented a sustainable data management organisation. He is currently focused in leading a strategic global program to improve data management, tools and processes for Shell Exploration. Mark holds a BSc degree in Geology and Petroleum Geology from the University of Aberdeen.

Kerry Blinston holds a degree in Geological Sciences from Leeds University and a masters in Petroleum Geology from the University of Aberdeen. He commenced his career as a sedimentologist working for Robertson Research. Advancing into various business development and managerial roles Kerry now manages CGG’s global data management business line as VP Smart Data Solutions, having joined the data management group in 2007. As an active member of the international petroleum data management community he has been part of the organising committee for the NDR conference, sits on the advisory group for the RGU Graduate Certificate in Petroleum Data Management is currently co-leading the Data Security, Entitlements and Obligations team for Open Subsurface Data Universe.

Trained as an engineer, Stephan Gruijters started at TNO - Geological Survey of the Netherlands in 2000, after almost 10 years of project management in consultancy. He is involved in projects aimed at creating geo-information used in soil, groundwater and mineral resource management, risk assessments and spatial planning. In 2002 he moved into (international) projects on data management, data dissemination and standardization. Since 2009 he has been is involved in the transition of the Dutch NDR to a fully automated, web service based system for upload, storing and download of all subsurface data in the Netherlands.

Lars Gåseby works in Shell as a Principal Data Management Technology Advisor. He has 25+ years of experience from the EP business, most time spend in Schlumberger, ConocoPhillips and Shell. His theoretical background is a Master Degree in hardware engineering. In addition to his Shell work he is involved in various ECIM activities (see www.ecim.no) and holds a board position in the organization.

Ugur Algan has over thirty years of experience in Upstream Information Management and Digital Transformation strategy. He is the founder and director of Volantice Ltd. Ugur has worked with numerous international oil and gas companies and government agencies and has particular experience in building National Data Repositories and in Corporate Data Management. Prior to his career in Volantice, Ugur worked in various roles for Halliburton. Ugur is a contributor to international E&P standards and has contributed to OSDU, Energistics and PPDM initiatives. Ugur has a Ph.D. in in Geological Engineering and has conducted post-doctoral research in Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). In addition, Ugur has served as shareholder and Non-executive Director on the boards of FUSE Information Management Ltd and International Geoscience (IGS) Ltd., a spin-out of British Geological Survey and Scicom, a software and services company.
